“Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, a Life Reclaimed
A Memoir of the Cleveland Kidnappings”
Disclaimer: The subject matter of this book is very heavy. There is sexually explicit and foul language. But please read my review before deciding not to read this book for those reasons.. because as hard as some of the things may be to read, you won’t regret it when you read about the strength, positivity and perseverance through Michelle Knight’s words of this harrowing event she endured over an eleven-year period in captivity.
Let me just first state that I own the hardcover version that I bought from Amazon. I went to find the exact one that I have, but they are out. Just wanted to be honest and let you know the link I have provided here to purchase this book is the paperback version.
I first heard about Michelle Knight and the two other women, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, who were held in captivity for periods of 9-11 years by Ariel Castro by watching Michelle Knight’s interview on Dr. Phil not long after her amazing rescue. It was a two-part, in depth interview about what SHE personally went through (the other girls were not ready to talk out at this point) in her 11 years spent under Ariel Castro’s roof in captivity. After watching that interview, I was riveted. Not by the disgusting nature of the crimes committed, but by the strength, hope and perseverance of Michelle Knight in this heinous situation.
Yes, this book can be hard to read. There are many horrific things that happened in that House Of Horrors, but why I am recommending this book is positivity. This girl could’ve easily given up, or gotten rescued and then faltered in life due to everything she endured. But she doesn’t.. and this book shows that even in the darkest of situations, hope can perseverance.
So while I sat down to review this book, this turned more into a recommendation because I think as dark, evil and disturbing some of the content of the book is, Michelle Knight’s light shines through it.. and I think THAT is worth the read. I hope you take what I said to heart and give this book a shot.. let this amazing woman inspire you like she has inspired me 🙂
