Hello - Every Sunday I shop my local drugstore (willl keep the name under wraps)….and I always go there before I do my weekly grocery shopping — right around when the store opens at 7am. Every week the same girl is at the cashier and every week she is not friendly. She makes me feel very uncomfortable about shopping there, using my coupons and rolling my $$ earned. To the point where..on the off chance she has to question something — and I know I'm right — I go out of my way to be "extra" friendly and she is just not NICE. I'm so uncomfortable going there. Maybe its because the store just opens…I don't know. but i know if I go too late in the day — all the good buys are gone. Does anyone have this experience?? Thinking of switching to another store of the same brand — just a little more out of my way.

I've had experiences with unfriendly cashiers too. Some people just refuse to be nice I guess. If the other store isn't too far out of the way, I'd switch. It's not worth it to dread your shopping trip. I'd also send a complaint to the store's customer service (most stores have a contact form on the website) because they deserve to know that they are losing your business at that branch because of an employee.

I have experienced very unfriendly and somewhat rude people on my trips. Lately I had some 3.00 off mens body wash coupons to use before they expired so I went to my local store and picked up 13 bottles that had been marked down to 2$2.87. I went to the register and started checking out and because I know the policy of my store is not to give overage I told the young cashier she needed to mark down my coupons to the correct amount of the item. The cashier looked confused and I proceeded to tell her the policy so she would not get in trouble, she got the manager to come over and to my surprise he said " Are you watching that new coupon show? You people are driving me freaking nuts!" I was shocked considering I was being honest and telling him to mark down my coupons so I wouldn't get overage. WOW Rude huh? I never know how to reply to people like that

Woah! Really?!?! I would have been all over that. I have been couponing before "that show" started (I don't have cable, so I've never seen it) but I've had a few cashiers draw comparisons with it while I'm at the check out. It's always been in an impressed sense or as small talk , though.
I worked as a cashier several times in my life. It's not an awful job and it's not hard to be nice to customers 99% of the time. I don't understand how so many cashiers can cop such an attitude!

I had an incident yesterday at one of the chain pharmacies. No problem with the transaction but not particularly friendly either. Knowing funnymoney can't be used on lottery tix, after completing the sale I asked her which $2 ones she had in the rack (I am having eye problems and could not read the names from the distance.) She pointed and said I have this, and this etc. I then asked what NAMES they were (DH has his favorites & I was planning on treating him.) She became annoyed and said I'll get you a list to read! I replied, don't bother turned and left! I don't know if she couldn't read (how can she cashier/coupon?) or is anti-gaming but the tone of voice and body language said it all.

Im glad there is somewhere for me to share my tale of the rudest cashier. Every week I go to cvs usually with my 90 yr old grandmother. We go to the same store out of convience. I went on Monday and got all my sale items and used my coupons. My grandmother was unable to go out on Thursday so I went for her. With coupons and her extra care card in hand. I got everything on the list got to the register and the woman said you already used your card this week on these items. I said I understood but I was shopping for my grandmother ( the cashier knows her by name) She said I couldnt use someone elses card. I explained to her she sees us here every week. My grandmother wasnt feeling well so I was doing her shopping this week. Cashier said she wouldnt ring it up and walked away to get the manager. Manager came over who I have spoken to before, has spoken to my grandmother and myself. He said the same thing I couldnt use her extra care card. I wasnt going to argue with him any further since he mentioned revolking my grandmothers card. I left and went couple miles down the street to another cvs no huge deal. But I just cant believe that we go there every week its the same cashiers, same manager we encounter. They know I am shopping with her or for her. It wasnt like I was trying to buy baby diapers for my 90 year old grandmother with coupons. I was buying water, food items, picking up perscriptions and some personal products.
I wish my grandmother was with me that day shes a fiesty little lady she would have hit the manager with her cane :)
Now she refuses to give them her business and makes me go few miles out of the way which is fine.
Oh yeah and I was asked by the cashier if I have watched that show on tv, I said yes I had. But I had also been coming to this cvs for the past 5 years using coupons and the same strategy.

That is so sad to hear how rude people are. What happened to customer service? People don't know what that means anymore. I agree that you should call corporate. They will handle it.

That's terrible! I would have called and complained to corporate!
Not to defend cashiers with attitude because it doesn't hurt to give customers a smile, but when it comes to confused cashiers a lot of them just aren't informed! When I was a teenager I worked at Walgreens for a couple years (before register rewards existed) and there was no training given to explain coupons or even rainchecks for that matter. I was very "by the book" (even though there techinally wasnt one on coupons ) but i know that if a customer came in and there total came down to almost nothing I would be concered that I was going to get in trouble or have the register shorted and would have called the manager over right away! I would've thought, "How could you be getting things for free!? They must be pulling a fast one on me!" I had no idea that stores would get paid back for mfg coupons, had i known, I would have scored some deals myself! Maybe when you get to the register, before you even get anything scanned, explain to the cashier you know you are scoring some great deals and that they should check out this website so they can learn themselves!

Now your first instinct would be to call corporate office but i dont ever do that unless a cashier really goes out of thier way to piss me off. first and foremost what if she has kids and that job is the only way she can support herself? she might have a bad attitude but i dont like it when people complain about me for things so i try to not do it to anyone else unless they really deserve it. everyone makes mistakes and has bad days but in my opinion nobody deserves to get thrown on the street as a result. Size her up and take a different approach. if someone give me a nasty look i ask them "long day huh?" and i usually get a smile back. If shes rude all the time then ask her "why do you act like such a B@%#$ when i come in here?". If she dont want to give you an answer then its not like anything changed. sometimes asking the question as dirrectly as possible helps the situation. Ive asked someone that before and got exactly the answer i wanted. a reason why they were acting stupid.

In this economy, they should be grateful that they have a job. I understand that everyone has a bad day now and then. But, really? It should NOT be happening on a consistent basis! I would complain to corporate if this is the case. There are plenty of unemployed people out there who would gladly take the job.

I'll name the chain I hate the most to deal with…Walgreen's! They are rude because they don't know what they are doing so they take it out on the customer. I'm no wall flower so if the cashier wants to go a few rounds I'm right there with her/him. My favorite comeback is to let them know how much the sales figure are growing each quarter because of us coupon people!!!! I also ask them why do they think corporate puts coupons in their own flayers, they never have an answer. They are not trained, just this week I had a very nice discussion with the manager from two different Walgreen's in my area and both admitted to me they just were informed at the regional meeting that is was legal to take BOGO's on a BOGO sale. Up until that point they were not taking them and during the last sale there were so many complaints to corporate that they had a training session on coupons for managers. So keep calling corporate and complaining because fighting with the cashier is a losing battle! We are not like those people on TV, I'm not looking to be a hoarder (1000 tubes of toothpaste? COME ON!) I just want to be a smart shopper and get the most from my $$$.

I had a rude cashier at CVS last week because of a coupon issue and I told her that there was no reason for her rude attitude. I like CVS and will go back to this one but I will try and not to go to that particular cashier again.

Welll I am happy to report that I switched CVS's and went to another one this week and the cashier was SOOOO nice!! He even told me that 1st thing in the morning is a great time to use my coupons because they are not busy at that time. Ih fact, I even told him he was much nicer than other locations — and he even agreed with me!!! I am definitely going back to this location again!!!

Whenever I get a rude cashier I just act like nothing is different. I am extra nice and even throw in a "man you seem to be having a rough day! SHEESH! Hope everything gets better!" LOL Then they are like, OOPS what a jerk I am! I think most of the time they have no idea how rude they are being. Of course some of the times they do… and that deserves a complaint to the higher ups.

I was in WM last night with multiples of the same coupon, the cashier looked at me as if I were a criminal when I handed her 8 of the same coupon, but had 8 items that they could be applied to. She called over to the cashier next to her and said " I need Amy….NOW" , her body language was rediculous, and she kept repeating "you can't double coupon" over and over, I assure you, I was not!! The manager was very kind, explained they had recently make a change to how they will take coupons, and going forward they do not accept multiple coupons for the same product. Meaning: If the coupons states 'One coupon per purchase' they now interpret that as 'one coupon per visit' which REALLY put a wrench in my transaction!! The rude cashiers are difficult to take, perhaps I will go back and instead of using coupons, I'll pay in nickels!!
Just FYI, this was the WM in Portsmouth, NH!!
