Can I use a checkout coupon from Shaw's at Rite-Aid?

I had a coupon from Shaw's that comes out of the machine at checkout.  It has the Shaw's logo and says "redeem at Shaw's" but not "redeem ONLY at Shaw's."  It has the address on the front for redemption and instructions on the back for the retailer to be compensated.

But the checkout lady at Rite-Aid would not take it, stated that it was only good at Shaw's.  I tried to tell her differently, thinking it was a regular manufacturer coupon.  Was I right?  Does anyone know if this is just Rite-Aid's policy?

I left without my item and was a little steamed.  I'm glad no one else was around to witness this, since no one shops at Rite-Aid anyway.

No, you won't be able to use that q from Shaw's anywhere else but Shaws and maybe Walmart( they take competitor Catalinas) So if there is a Shaws and a Walmart near each other in your area Walmart should take it.

Just saw this post, somehow.  My impression was the same as yours, Frank.  If the coupon says REDEEM ONLY AT X then you can only redeem it there, but if it says "REDEEM AT X" then I take it as an ad for X and assume it's a MFR coupon as long as that's what it says on top.  Sort of like those printables from coupons.com that say "available at Walmart" but don't say you have to redeem only at Walmart–it's just a bit of extra advertising. I'm not confident about this but I have used similar coupons at Whole Foods, etc. without difficulty.

I'd be interested to know if there is a formal policy about this somewhere, or if the Catalina folks have a list of rules about their cats.
