A few weeks ago Staples had a promotion – if you buy $50 gift card you got a $10 gift card (to use after 12/26).  I bought a $50 gift card, got the $10 GC then went in later in the day and bought another $50 WITH the $50 GC I purchased in the morning and got ANOTHER $10 GC.  I did this twice a day for a week (they finally said, you can't use a gift card to buy a gift card).  I just kept rolling the $50 GC.  Was this wrong? Could I have done it numerous times at the register (say 5 in a row).  My husband said "it's just wrong".   I'm wondering if "it's just smart".

They had the right to stop you if you were doing back to back transactions.  I beleive the promo said one per person or something like that.  It may have been one per customer but I remember the question coming up about if it would be tracked on your card and prevent you from getting the gift card more than once.  Many stores say you can't buy a gift card with a gift card.
