Tonight went to get Bic Highlighters that are on sale for $1 and use the $1 Bic coupon.

Was told I cannot use mc coupons when an item is on sale for the same price as a coupon = free item.

Huh, since when did that happen?? The Mgr and Cashier wouldn't budge on this.

Mgr. proceeded to tell me,  "that they do not get remimbursed for mc coupons; they are not like CVS or other stores that have a clearing house to process coupons to get reimbursed. They end up wripping them up, tossing them out.  They won't take coupons for the same value as an items price." Also, there is no way for them to wring up the item, registers don't allow for it. (they throw out money that is due them Surprised)

But will you take a $3 coupon on a $5 item, I asked, they said yes. (how do they get reimbursed for that)

This was at the Assembly Square Mall location in Somerville.

This happened a few months ago when I was just getting one item and I had forgot they told me that back then.

(Reminds me of the CVS ordeal I went thru last year when I was told they really don't like taking coupons on clearance items that give ECB's because I'm getting Free items …and almost wouldn't let me. Sure enough a few months later all their sales flyers now say no ECB on clearance items.)

What do you all think ?? bad training or true ?

I had no problem getting 4 free packs of highlighters the other day.  At first it rang up with the tax, but then she even wiped that out and I put my quarter back in my pocket.  My sister went through an ordeal at her Staples with one "manager" refusing and then a second saying she's fine, but they charged her one penny for each pack.  Mine was no problem.  This was Pembroke, MA.  I don't know where she went – maybe she'll post Wink

I had the same experience as deluxcouponlady mentioned, no problem at 2 different stores – at one store, they keyed them in so the item was zero, not sure how, because at the 2nd store, they said they couldn't do that, but instead put them in for a penny, which I was fine with – not sure if they get reimbursed or not for them, but if they don't, I think thats stupid.  I don't work in retail, but it seems to me that you wouldn't need a clearinghouse to send coupons in to the address on the qs – to not send them in just seems dumb, loss of income for the store/chain, but they must have a plan in place for the chain to follow, you would think, right??

Same problem in Danvers MA today!  So frustrating.  Beverly MA no problems… free pens and made 50 cents per pack!
