Want to eliminate your home phone bill?
You can now break up with the phone company thanks to OBI100
What is an Obi100?
An OBI100 is a little device that allows you to use your home phones to make an receive phone calls for FREE thru services like Google voice.
Google Voice is FREE. Google voice allows you top make and recieve phone calls thru your computer. Free is good but being restricted to your computer isn’t. In order to be able to have your house phone handsets working via Google voice you need an adapter and there are a lot to choose from. I have researched many options and found that the Obi100 was the best price with the best reviews.
I received the unit about a week ago and installed it myself and set us was fairly simple. You first need to sign up for a Google Voice free phone number and choose number. That is free and you can do that before you have the device.
Once you get the device you just plug it into your router connect your phone and adjust your settings on Google voice and you are good to go. Be sure and follow the directions when setting up with Google voice.
Tip: Be sure Google Chat checked off in your Google Voice settings next to your Gmail account when setting this up. I got stuck on that for a while and could call out but not received calls in until I realized I checked the wrong account.
If you want more than one working free phone then you need to use digital phones which you may already own. I already had AT&T digital phones and they work great for this.
Digital phones are great because you can add handsets to them whenever you need to and they do not need to be plugged into a phone jack so you can add one anywhere you have electricity. You can find great deals on digital phones HERE
Overall it was very simple to set up. I did it all by myself and I am not techy.
Once I had the phones set up I made my first test call to my hubby and it worked but I could hear a slight delay but the delay went away quickly and I have not heard any delays since then. Next I called Cardinal to see if she noticed anything different and she could not tell I was using anything different than normal. Being a skeptic I waited a few days to be sure everything was working fine and once I was confident I called up Verizon and cut the phone cord bill.
For a $39.99 one time cost you will never have to pay a phone bill again, unless of course Google Voice decided to start charging a fee but if they do there are other free options we can switch to.
The only downfall to the OBI100 is you can’t use it for 911. My advice is to have your towns emergency contact number taped to all phones that are connected to OBI100.
