How LTC Stacks and Overages happen at Stop & Shop
Stop & Shop used to allow stacking of LTC offers with manufacturers offers but back in 2017 they changed their policy to state they no longer allow customers to redeem both offers. But how come some stores still allow stacking? Why do some stores give overages? The answer is, they don’t. It is not the store that is accepting the “stacking” it’s actually a loophole in the system that allows the customer to get both offers depending on the order that they scan their coupons and store card.
Loopholes often can be figured out by testing various ways of adding items to orders. This is often how most store glitches are discovered . You may want to read: How to Spot a Glitch Deal. Once a loophole is discovered it’s up to the store to prevent it from happening again. It is not the customers responsibility to inform the store about their loophole and it’s perfectly legal (just ask any attorney or accountant) to accept the loophole.
In most cases (but not all) people are not trying to add extra coupons to their order and aren’t even sure how they got the extra offers and overage to even happen in the first place. This is why you will often hear some people claim that their store stacks. When in fact its just how they get their items rung up and at what point their Stop & Shop store card is scanned.
So what makes offers stack as well as provide overage on some coupons?
It all comes down to when the card is entered into the register.
Here is how LTC offers attach even if you aren’t trying to make them stack.
- Scan all your items
- Scan all your coupons
- Subtotal
- Enter your card
- Subtotal
If your order is rung in this way the system will deduct all your manufacturer coupons. If you card is entered after your order subtotal and coupons have been entered it will then take off any matching LTC offers that have been loaded to your card, even if you didn’t want or expect them.
So there you have it. You can stop scratching your head wondering why stacking happens for some people and not others. It all comes down to the order things are scanned.
