The IRS tax season will be delayed this year according to the IRS. The IRS will begin accepting federal returns on February 12 according to an announcement made Friday, which is later than the usual late January start time.
The pandemic and the rush to send recent stimulus payments have caused the delay by a few weeks. The IRS needs this time to do additional programming and testing of the IRS systems with recent tax law changes. If you are using a tax software service, you can begin to file your returns, however, they will not be transmitted until February 12 at the earliest. The deadline to file is still April 15th unless you file for an extension.
