Ladies and gents, we’ve discovered a seriously awesome, money saving tip! Ever go to load your dishwasher just to find that you’ve run out of dishwasher detergent?! ugh….THE HORROR!
Don’t beat yourself up, it happens to the best couponers…
Well, lucky for you, we’ve found a SIMPLE and super CHEAP alternative to the pricey stuff! Best part; you probably already have these ingredients on hand. Check it out below!
Load your dishwasher as usual
Add about three drops of regular dish soap to your dishwasher’s detergent cup.
Fill the cup 2/3 of the way with baking soda.
Add salt until the cup is nearly full (we’ve found this step optional, probably helps with hard water)
Run your dishwasher as normal.
That’s it…and guess what?
It works! Seriously….we wish we had run out of detergent earlier!
Alternatively, try this out if you rather have a container on hand that you can use for each wash:
Clean out an old milk gallon (or any gallon container), put two teaspoons of liquid dish detergent and four teaspoons of baking soda in it, then slowly fill it with warm water, dissolving the solution. Store away and just fill up the cup as you normally would! Each gallon will provide enough for eight to ten loads of dishes for about a penny each!
