No more Overage at Dollar General!
DG shoppers will soon see a new coupon policy that’ll no longer allow overage if a coupon exceeds the selling price of an item. Below are the two main points to consider when shopping at Dollar General in the future. We do not know the exact date this update will take effect. Until all systems have been updated, you may still receive overage at your store!
- Dollar General accepts coupons that have a face value that exceeds the price of the item to which the coupon applies. However, effective as of the most recent update, the discount received by the customer may not exceed the total pre-tax selling price (after all other discounts) of the item to which the coupon applies.
- Dollar General is in the process of converting its point of sale systems to a new platform that better supports this policy. Until that process is complete, customers in some stores may receive the full face value of a coupon even when it exceeds the selling price.
This update will most likely effect both digital and paper coupons. Currently, if you purchase an item for $.50, you can use a $1 coupon and get back $.50 overage that’ll go towards other items in your cart. Once the system updates, the $1 coupon will adjust down to $.50 making it free, no overage.
