Less driving = Fewer accidents
Allstate and American Family Insurance are the first to begin discounting car insurance premiums since many drivers aren’t using their cars during the stay-at-home orders. Allstate, Esurance, and Encompass state that some customers may receive a 15 percent refund in April and May. American Family Insurance is returning $50 per vehicle.
Allstate expects to refund more than $600 million in refunds while American Family Insurance expects to return $200 million according to The Wall Street Journal. Both are the first major insurance companies to issue this refund program.
GEICO is providing a 15 percent credit to auto and motorcycle policyholders as your policy comes up for renewal between April 8 and October 7, 2020. The credit will also apply to any new policies purchased during this period. Current policyholders can expect to see the credit when your policy renews. Check Geico site for more info!
Liberty Mutual personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund on two months of their auto premiums, as of April 7, 2020, pending regulatory approval. The refunds will begin in April and will be issued either by check or in the manner you made your most recent payment.The payments will happen automatically, and you do not need to call us to receive the refund.
Progressive has stated all active personal auto customers will be automatically credited 20% of their April and May premiums.
Others such as State Farm are encouraging customers to contact them to discuss their policies if they are driving less or not driving at all.
Some other benefits for policyholders include extended grace periods for late payments and other changes that happen daily due to the pandemic. Check with your car insurance company for information about these changes.
