HUDSON FALLS – Customers who’d never bought a generator before were getting a quick lesson at Falls Farm and Garden Equipment Monday afternoon.
Unlike many retail stores, this place has the one piece of equipment that many of us are looking for as we brace for a predicted hurricane and potential power outages.
Falls Farm and Garden services and sells generators year-round.
“We’re in the generator business all the time, not just when there’s a bad storm,” said Tim Havens, owner.
But when there’s a bad storm on the way, people think about buying a generator.
Marshall Zeh and Sally Fish were in the store to replace their broken model. “We waited too long. So it was time to come and get one. Especially with the storm on the way there,” said Zeh.
As the wind began to kick up Monday afternoon, the owner here had a couple hundred generators in stock, ranging in price from $799 to five thousand dollars.
If power outages are sustained, many will consider it a good investment.
“I’ve been in Florida for hurricanes and I know you can lose power for quite a while, so I’m just hoping this helps us maintain,” said Statia Darrah before driving away with a new generator in the bed of her pick-up truck.
Havens reminds consumers, especially those who’ve never used them before, that generators come with a warning.
“Do not run them in any enclosed space. Ever,” he said.’
