The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is calling for all manufacturers to pull all prescription and over-the-counter medications containing ranitidine, also known as Zantac, from the market immediately. This is much different from the voluntary recall some time ago!
The FDA determined that levels of contaminant, NDMA, in the heartburn medications increase over time. When this medication is stored at higher-than-normal temperatures, it poses a risk to your health. As of now we don’t know how long Zantac products have been stored so the FDA says it’s best to remove them from the shelves.
If your medication is prescribed by your doctor, please speak with your doctor before discontinuing the medication. If you have over-the-counter Zantac, the FDA is asking that you please stop taking the medication and follow the instructions in the package to dispose of it properly. You can also follow the FDA’s recommended safe disposal steps on its website.
Many stores are not accepting returns at this time due to Covid-19.
