Zantac Recall ~ Check Your Medicine Cabinet!
Drugmaker Sanofi is voluntarily recalling the heartburn medicine Zantac OTC. The generic name for this medication is ranitidine and is sold over the counter under that name as well at most pharmacies and big box retail stores. Sanofi is working with the FDA to determine the extent of the recall.
Walmart, CVS, and Walgreen’s recently announced they would stop sales of ranitidine because of concerns that it might contain the impurity Nitrosodimethylamine, cosidered a possible carcinogen.
The FDA is not calling for people to stop taking the drugs but is advising that if you currently take Zantac or other ranitidine medication you should consult with your physician if you wish to stop taking the medication or would like a different treatment option.
