“Dangerous Baby Food” – What manufacturers are getting away with and what you need to know.
Back in 2019, the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy requested test results from seven of the largest manufacturers of baby food in the US after reports alleged that high levels of toxic heavy metals were found in their products.
The Subcommittee’s investigation found:
- Top baby foods are being sold with knowingly dangerous levels of inorganic arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury.
- Manufactures are getting away with testing only the ingredients without sharing the levels of contaminates in the finished product.
- Consumers are not being protected by industry regulations as manufactures are setting their own standards for toxic heavy metal levels.
Below are the brands effected:
- Nurture, Inc. (Nurture), which sells Happy Family Organics, including baby food products under the brand name HappyBABY
- Beech-Nut Nutrition Company (Beech-Nut)
- Hain Celestial Group, Inc. (Hain), which sells baby food products under the brand name Earth’s Best Organic
- Gerber
- Campbell Soup Company (Campbell), which sells baby food products under the brand name Plum Organics
- Walmart Inc. (Walmart), which sells baby food products through its private brand Parent’s Choice
- Sprout Foods, Inc. (Sprout Organic Foods)
-Literally, all baby food brands.
Whats even more concerning? Of the brands listed above, 3 of them refused to cooperate with the investigation; Walmart, Campbell, and Sprout Organic Foods. Are these companies hiding even higher levels of toxic heavy metals in their products?
Recalls have not been issued YET, but keep an eye out for additional information.
