How To Have A Low Cost Friendsgiving

Whether you’re trying to save money for your traditional Thanksgiving celebration or just on a budget and wanting to keep costs low, this article is for you! We’re sharing tips on how to have a low cost friendsgiving.

What is Friendsgiving?

Friendsgiving is just like Thanksgiving except it’s reserved for friends! Often times, people will have these celebrations the day before or after Thanksgiving.

Pro Tip: Having this the day after Thanksgiving will allow you to use up some of those leftovers and not have to cook an entirely different meal!

How To Have A Low Cost Friendsgiving

1. Host!
Hosting can sometimes be more of a financial burden, but in this case, you’ll most likely have leftovers or people will be bringing dishes over. This way, you’ll probably only have to take care of the main dish (turkey) and nothing else! You can also skip the turkey all together if your friend group prefers!

2. Menu creation.
Make sure you create a menu beforehand and see what people are planning to bring. You don’t want to end up with several portions of the same thing! This will also help you to make sure everything is covered.

3. Remind people to bring containers.
You’ll want to make sure you have plenty of containers to send leftovers home in. Rather than end up sending them home in all of your containers and cookware, everybody bringing their own can make it much easier on you as the host!

4. Skip the decorations!
After all, when you’re on a budget, decorations can seem a little frivolous. It’s definitely not a requirement and people will appreciate the food and company much more than the decorations in the long run.

Pro Tip: If you must, consider looking to nature for some decorations! Fall foliage provides a lot to create your own decorations with!

5. Cheap beverages.
Instead of buying expensive wine or tons of separate bottles of alcohol, stick to the cheaper stuff! It’s okay to be frugal when you’re entertaining for lots of people. There are lots of great cheap wines, and alternatively, if you want to make a “punch”, it makes a single bottle of alcohol stretch a lot further!

For non-alcoholic beverages, consider an apple cider!
